No F1 race yet, but Lewis Hamilton wants to hit Indian roads
Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton has surprised many by sharing a personal travel dream that has nothing to do with racing circuits. In a recent video released by Formula 1 ahead of the 2026 season, the seven-time world champion said he wants to explore India by road and make his way up through the Himalayas, with plans to one day climb Mount Everest.
Hamilton, who this season drives for Scuderia Ferrari, said he envisions a road trip across India before heading into the majestic Himalayan region. “I wanna travel through India and then make my way up through the Himalayas. That’s like my future dream for me,” he said.
The idea of exploring India comes at a time when the country is once again in discussions to bring Formula 1 back to its shores. India hosted the Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida for three seasons from 2011 to 2013. However, the race was dropped from the calendar due to tax and bureaucratic issues, and it has not returned since. Recent reports suggest that talks are underway to revive the race in the coming years.
Hamilton has been to India before during the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix, which was held from 2011 to 2013 at the Buddh International Circuit. He competed there with McLaren, the team he drove for between 2007 and 2012. In 2013, he raced with Mercedes and finished 7th on the grid. However, he did not manage to win the Indian GP. Now, his focus remains on the 2026 F1 season, which begins with the Australian Grand Prix in March.
