“Spot gold is currently trading nearly 0.20% lower at $5073. Much-awaited US nonfarm payroll report for January was somewhat encouraging as US employers added 130K jobs Vs the estimate of 55k jobs, and unemployment rate edged lower from 4.40% to 4.30%. Wage growth at 3.71% was also decent. However, US Dollar Index has not been able to gain much upward traction as jobs in prior two months were revised down by 17K, and annual benchmark revision cut 2025 estimates lower by 898K. In addition, focus is on tomorrow's US CPI data (January).

Overall, gold is expected to range trade and is increasingly vulnerable to downside correction barring flaring of geopolitical tensions. Expected range is $4975-$5125 in near term, says Praveen Singh, Head of commodities, Mirae Asset ShareKhan.

Over the past six months, jewellery stocks have delivered varied returns. Kalyan Jewellers has declined by 20%, while Titan has registered a gain of 20%. PN Gadgil has risen 2%, Senco Gold has advanced 11%, and Thangamayil Jewellery has recorded a sharp increase of 88%.
According to Khushi Mistry, Research Analyst at Bonanza, the performance of jewellery companies has not always moved in line with the surge in gold prices. "Gold's rise often makes jewellery less affordable, hurting volumes, though strong festive and wedding demand can offset this in patches," she said.

Unlike gold as an asset, jewellery businesses are exposed to several operational risks. Companies must manage inventory efficiently while also dealing with costs related to store expansion, rising competition, changing product preferences and pressure on profit margins. Elevated gold prices can further strain margins. Motilal Oswal has indicated that profitability may remain under pressure due to an unfavourable product mix and higher sales of gold coins, which typically offer lower margins compared with studded jewellery.

Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvi Finmart is of the view that prices of precious metals are currently experiencing sharp swings, although silver is likely to maintain strong support near $70 per troy ounce and gold around $4,770 per troy ounce on a weekly closing basis. He noted that both metals may continue to see heightened volatility in the near term due to movements in the dollar index, anticipation of key US inflation data, and prevailing geopolitical uncertainties.

For the ongoing session, gold is seen finding support in the $5,055–5,000 range, with resistance placed between $5,122 and $5,170 per troy ounce. Silver, meanwhile, has support levels at $80.00–76.60 and resistance between $88.00 and $90.20 per troy ounce. On the MCX, gold is expected to receive support in the Rs 1,57,500–1,56,000 band, while resistance is seen at Rs 1,60,000–1,62,400. Silver has support at Rs 2,58,000–2,51,800 and resistance in the Rs 2,71,000–2,80,000 range. Jain advised investors to consider buying gold and silver during price declines, provided gold sustains above Rs 1,55,500 and silver remains above Rs 2,50,000 on a closing basis, with near-term upside targets of about Rs 1,62,500 for gold and Rs 2,80,000 for silver.

But the largest increase in payrolls in 13 months likely exaggerates labour market's health, as revisions showed the economy added only 181,000 jobs in 2025 instead of the previously estimated 584,000. Amidst better jobs data and steady hourly earnings, US treasuries were hit the hardest, with 2Y bond yields rising to 3.5%. According to market expectations, the fed could keep rates unchanged through Chair Jerome Powell's term ending in May but, cut immediately afterward in June, a suggesting that policy under his likely successor, Kevin Warsh, could become too loose.

After talks with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, President Trump said they reached no "definitive" agreement on how to move forward with Iran but, he insisted negotiations with Tehran would continue to see if a deal can be achieved without any escalation further. Silver outperforms gold amid easing US economic signals, says expert

"MCX gold rose nearly 1 per cent, reclaiming levels above Rs 1.58 lakh per 10 grams, while silver outperformed the yellow metal with around a 3 per cent gain, crossing Rs 2.60 lakh per kg," Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, said. He added that investor sentiment strengthened after softer US economic data raised hopes of rate cuts and signalled slowing growth.

Silver, gold futures rebound on weak dollar, US-Iran tensions

Gold and silver prices rebounded sharply in futures trade on Wednesday, with the white metal climbing nearly 4 per cent or Rs 9,665 to Rs 2.62 lakh per kg and the yellow metal edging higher to Rs 1.58 lakh per 10 grams on firm global trends.

Analysts said a weak US dollar and renewed geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran lifted the demand for safe-haven assets.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), silver for March delivery surged by Rs 9,665, or 3.83 per cent, to Rs 2,62,213 per kg. The white metal had slumped by Rs 10,072, or nearly 4 per cent, to settle at Rs 2,52,548 per kg on Tuesday.

Gold futures also witnessed value buying with the April contract rising Rs 1,397, or 0.89 per cent, to Rs 1,58,200 per 10 grams. In the previous session, the yellow metal had finished lower at Rs 1,56,803 per 10 grams.

Gold Price Today: US jobs report awaited

Spot gold, after posting a slight loss yesterday despite soft US retail sales data, is currently trading nearly 0.50% higher at $5050 as investors await the crucial US nonfarm payroll data (January). Gold is higher on a weaker US Dollar.

US retail sales m-o-m in December following a 0.6% increase in November, The data fell short of expectations of an increase of 0.4%. Ex auto sales were also flat Vs the forecast of 0.3%.

Nonfarm payroll report and January inflation data (to be released on February 13) will be crucial for short term moves in the metal.

Gold is currently caught between two opposing major factors: easing geopolitical tensions and weakening US job market.

Gold is expected to range trade ahead of the US job data. A weaker job report may help the metal test the resistance at $5125, a decisive breach of which will open way to test $5200 resistance, whereas an encouraging job report will weigh on the metal. Gold prices are expected to stay firm through 2026, backed by supportive global factors, sustained purchases by central banks and continued inflows into exchange-traded funds, said Naveen Mathur, Director – Commodities, Currencies and International Business at Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers Ltd.
Speaking at the India Investment Summit and during an interaction with ET Now, Mathur said that adopting a “buy on dips” approach continues to be an effective strategy for retail investors seeking to build exposure to gold.

Explaining the outlook for gold investments in 2026, Mathur noted that the underlying fundamentals supporting the metal remain largely unchanged despite recent fluctuations in prices.

“Global uncertainties continue, risk assets may not perform consistently, and gold remains a hedge against inflation and currency risks,” he said.
He pointed to several structural factors that continue to support gold prices, including sustained demand from central banks, the ongoing financialisation of gold through ETFs, and easier digital access to gold investment avenues, particularly gold ETFs.

Mathur added that unless there is a significant improvement in global risk appetite, gold is likely to maintain a positive long-term trend.

“Gold and silver prices rose in the early morning trade after falling briefly in the yesterday’s session, as US Treasury bond yields fell after data showed December retail sales growth stalled, signalling a softening economy ahead of key jobs data.

US yields and Dollar index fell after a raft of data suggested the economy may be softening, giving the US Federal Reserve more room to cut interest rates. As the Dollar index weakened against its major crosses, USDINR gained traction once again hovering around 91 mark increasing volatility in market. Gold and silver futures opened on a firm note on the Multi Commodity Exchange on Wednesday. MCX silver futures for March 5, 2026 delivery climbed 3 per cent, rising by Rs 6,970 to Rs 2,59,418 per kg. Gold futures for April 2, 2026 delivery increased by Rs 1,633, or 1 per cent, to Rs 1,58,436 per 10 grams.

Abhishek Bhilwaria, Bhilwaria MF, AMFI registered MFD told ET that Gold and silver prices are rising in February primarily due to a combination of heightened geopolitical tensions, persistent central bank buying, and a softer US Dollar following a period of record-high volatility.

For investors, a disciplined, staggered allocation strategy (such as SIPs) rather than chasing short-term price spikes, suggesting a core portfolio holding of 5–15% in precious metals to hedge against currency depreciation and market uncertainty, Bhilwaria further said.

Silver Price Today: Gold, silver ETFs rally

Gold and silver exchange traded funds climbed by as much as 5 per cent on Wednesday, supported by expectations that the US Federal Reserve may adopt a more accommodative stance after weak economic data pointed to slowing consumer demand and increasing concerns over growth.

Among gold ETFs, Tata Gold ETF recorded the sharpest gains, rising nearly 5 per cent to an intraday high of Rs 15.8. Union Gold ETF advanced around 3 per cent, while Baroda BNP Paribas Gold ETF, Axis Gold ETF, DSP Gold ETF, Zerodha Gold ETF and Angel One Gold ETF registered gains of up to 2 per cent during the session.

Net inflows into silver exchange traded funds surged sharply in January, rising 139 per cent to ₹9,463 crore from ₹3,962 crore recorded in December 2025. Assets under management of precious metal ETFs expanded significantly during the period, increasing to ₹1.16 lakh crore in January 2026 from ₹72,652 crore in December 2025, reflecting a month-on-month growth of 61 per cent.

The strong inflows came despite noticeable price fluctuations during the month. Even amid market volatility, silver ETFs generated returns of up to 52.28 per cent in the first month of the current calendar year.

Among the funds, Tata Silver ETF delivered the highest return at 52.28 per cent in January. Axis Silver ETF followed with gains of 46.09 per cent over the same period, while Zerodha Silver ETF posted returns of 45.52 per cent. Nippon India Silver ETF, the largest scheme in the segment by assets under management, recorded a return of 44.45 per cent.

Umesh Sharma, CIO-Debt at The Wealth Company Mutual Fund, said the rise in gold ETFs and multi-asset allocation funds attracted investor interest, with gold ETFs witnessing record inflows driven by the strong one-year performance of gold and silver compared with other major asset classes.
Akhil Chaturvedi, Executive Director and Chief Business Officer at Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company, said highlights included strong inflows into gold and silver ETFs as well as index funds, with combined flows touching a record ₹24,000 crore.

Investor interest in precious metals surged in January, with mutual fund allocations to gold and silver rising sharply as prices of both metals climbed significantly. For the first time in recent years, monthly inflows into gold and silver schemes surpassed investments into equity funds, which have typically driven industry growth.

Gold and silver Exchange Traded Funds recorded inflows of ₹33,503 crore during the month, more than twice the ₹15,600 crore seen in December. The momentum has been building since November, when inflows stood at ₹5,896 crore. In comparison, equity mutual fund inflows softened, declining 14 per cent to ₹24,029 crore in January, although systematic investment plan contributions remained stable at ₹31,002 crore.

"Performance chasing behaviour is clearly visible in data," says Viraj Gandhi, CEO, Samco Mutual Fund.

Investor appetite also strengthened for multi-asset allocation funds, which invest across equities, precious metals, international equities and fixed income instruments. These funds witnessed inflows rise to ₹10,485 crore in January from ₹7,426 crore in the previous month.

Among precious metal products, gold ETFs accounted for the larger share of inflows, attracting ₹24,040 crore in January compared with ₹11,647 crore in December. Silver ETFs also saw strong participation, drawing ₹9,463 crore during the month against ₹3,962 crore earlier. Over the past year, gold has delivered returns of 80 per cent, while silver has recorded a sharper gain of 158 per cent in rupee terms.
