India-US partnership has ‘limitless potential’, says Sergio Gor as trade deal nears
The US expects to finalise an interim trade agreement with India in the coming weeks and months as both countries work to deepen economic and technology ties, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said on Thursday.
"Our current interim trade agreement is on the table for us to finalise that will unlock prosperity for both of our countries," Gor said in Delhi.
"We fully expect that the trade deal will be signed over next few weeks and months," he added.
Highlighting the broader trajectory of bilateral ties, Gor said there was significant scope to expand cooperation between the two countries across sectors.
"There is limitless potential to take forward US-India relations," he said.
The envoy said Washington increasingly recognises India's economic and technological strengths and is keen to strengthen engagement.
"There is opportunity to transform US-India relations into a more seamless economic relationship," Gor said.
He added that no bilateral partnership is better positioned to take advantage of emerging opportunities, particularly in the technology sector.
"No partnership is better placed than the one between India and US to leverage new opportunities, including in technology domain," he said.
Referring to technology cooperation, Gor said the US was actively reviewing its export control framework to facilitate deeper collaboration with India.
The ambassador also highlighted India's participation in Pax Silica, saying it reflected the confidence the US has in India's capabilities.
"The reason India was in the first top 10 countries to join Pax Silica is because we trust this place, we trust the people here, we trust the technology, we trust your government. It's a partnership that we are willing to build on," he said.
Gor also described US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's recent visit to India as "substantive", underscoring continued engagement between the two countries on a range of strategic and economic issues.
