BJP team faces outrage of people displaced by violence in Tripura
Agartala: A BJP delegation led by social welfare minister Tinku Roy faced public outrage in Tripura’s Gandatwisa on Monday, three days after clashes between two groups left more than 250 people homeless and forced them to spend nights in relief camps.
The incident was triggered by the death of a youth, Parameshwar Reang (21), who was beaten at a fairground on July 7, resulting in the burning and looting of at least 40 houses and 32 shops in the surrounding villages.

Parameshwar was initially shifted to Gandatwisa Hospital from where he was referred to Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) where he succumbed to his injuries last Friday.
The affected families have been demanding immediate compensation, rebuilding of houses, adequate security, and the arrest of the culprits. They accused the police of inaction, which they believe led to the escalation of the situation. When Roy, along with other BJP leaders, visited the relief camps to meet the victims, they were met with anger and harassment from the affected people.
The situation turned violent as the mob chased the leaders away from the camps, blaming the BJP’s alliance with TIPRA Motha and its founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman for violence in the state. The minister and the leaders sought shelter in the office of the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), but the mob attacked the office and pelted stones, vandalizing the entire office and causing security personnel to flee.
