Tripura duo get death for rape & murder of minor

AGARTALA: A Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) court in North Tripura on Tuesday convicted two teenagers - students of higher secondary level and awarded a death sentence for sexually assaulting and murdering a minor girl in June 2019.
One of the convicts was a student of Class XII while his friend studied in Class XI when they committed the crime.Police had arrested them two days after the incident and both had confessed during interrogation that they raped the girl before murdering her. Both had turned into adults by the time the case went into trial. The court of special judge Angshuman Debbarma after a long trial awarded the death penalty based on the evidence submitted by the police and recording testimonies of as many as 41 witnesses.
