Agra: A 40-year-old tandoori roti maker was arrested in Hathras after a video surfaced showing him allegedly spitting on chapati dough before placing it in a tandoor at an eatery in the Madhubani locality under Kotwali police station limits.
Police said an FIR was registered at Hathras Kotwali police station under Section 272 (acts likely to spread diseases dangerous to life) of the BNS based on a written complaint and the video evidence.
DSP Hathras Y K Narayanan said the accused, Shadab Khan, is being questioned. "The matter is under investigation. Further action will be taken based on the findings," he said.
The complaint was filed by Bajrang Dal member Shivam Sharma, who alleged that the incident took place at Nizam Hotel. He claimed that several people had been served contaminated food earlier as well and that it was not a one-off incident but a regular practice.
The eatery owner denied the allegations, saying that the video did not show any spitting and alleged that an unidentified person who recorded the clip had earlier sent it to him and demanded Rs 1 lakh, threatening to make it public if the money was not paid.
