AGRA: Condemning the lathi-charge by
Haryana police on farmers demanding minimum support price (MSP) for their sunflower crop, BKU chief
Rakesh Tikait has labelled it a “brutal act”. In response, he announced that a kisan panchayat will be organised in Kurukshetra on June 12.
Tikait said, “Despite the peaceful nature of the protest, farmers were subjected to a brutal lathi charge by the police on Tuesday.
To further highlight our cause, we will hold a Kisan Panchayat in Kurukshetra on June 12.”
Highlighting the farmers' demand for MSP, Tikait said, “Those farmers are asking for MSP, their sunflower crops should be purchased at 64
kg by the government. There should be a guarantee law regarding MSP.”
He added, “There will be a widespread movement on MSP. All farmers from across the country should join this movement. Agitating and asking for the right price for our crops is not treason. Government should implement the guarantee law and fulfil the promises made in their manifesto, including the implementation of Swami Rangnathan's report.”
