AGRA: A gang of six armed men chased a car for some distance and later fired bullets at its occupants on

Aliganj-Nawabanj

road near

Samaichipur

village on

Etah-Farrukhabad

border on Thursday afternoon.

According to officials, five people, including a theft accused, were travelling in the car and were heading to Farukhabad district court for a hearing when they were attacked. They were identified as

Suresh Chandar Yadav

(a history sheeter), Ashutosh Pathak, Devendar Yadav, Sher Singh and Pravesh Pathak. While Suresh and Ashutosh sustained bullet injuries and were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment, the other three men escaped unhurt.

Farukhabad police said that the attack was planned and executed by Raju Yadav and his aides Munna Lal Yadav, Lakhan Yadav and

Sukhvir

, apart from three other men who were yet to be identified.

Tribhuwan Singh, additional superintendent of police, Farukhabad, told TOI, “Four years back, Suresh Chandar Yadav had fired bullets at Raju Yadav, but the latter escaped unhurt. On Thursday when Suresh was heading to Farukhabad district court, Raju and his men, who were heavily armed and were driving a pick-up truck, chased Suresh and his aides and attacked them. They hit his car from behind after which it overturned. While the car occupants were trying to come out, Raju and his men began indiscriminate firing.”

Interestingly, Raju is Suresh’s brother-in-law and both men hail from Etah district. However, their enmity dates back to several years.

“Since Suresh was also carrying a rifle in his car, he fired shots at Raju. A police team shorty arrived at the spot, but Raju and his men managed to escape, leaving behind the pick-up truck. A case of attempt to murder under IPC Section 307 has been registered against them and a search operation has been launched in the district to nab them,” added the additional superintendent of police.
