Agra: A 17-year-old girl in Agra's Fatehpur Sikri filmed her "fake" suicide attempt and posted the video on social media to gain followers on Thursday, triggering an alert from Meta's artificial intelligence (AI) monitoring system that prompted police to rush to her home.
Police said the video showed the girl drinking a liquid from a bottle and appearing to collapse on camera. The AI system flagged the content as a potential suicide attempt and immediately alerted authorities.
Acting on the alert, the social media cell informed local police, who traced the location and reached the girl's home in Fatehpur Sikri to verify her safety. Officers found her unharmed and later confirmed that the video had been staged.
She had only consumed water and not any poisonous substance.
During questioning, the girl admitted that she created the video solely to attract attention and enhance her social media status. Police counselled her and warned her against posting misleading content related to self-harm.
"A 17-year-old girl made a fake video to increase her followers on social media," said Fatehpur Sikri in-charge inspector Andanveer on Friday.
Officials said the girl was safe and in good health. Her family members thanked police for their swift response, while authorities urged social media users, especially youngsters, not to spread false or alarming content online for publicity, warning that such acts could invite legal action.
