AGRA: A five-month-old boy was allegedly abducted by an unidentified woman from outside the district jail in Aligarh on Friday. The abduction took place when the child’s mother was busy completing formalities for meeting a prisoner lodged there.
According to police, the incident occurred during meeting hours around 11:30am, when a resident of Parawali village, Priyanka, gave her five-month-old child, Umang, to her six-year-old niece, Simran, and went for stamping of papers for permission to meet to her brother-in-law, Suresh Pal, who was in judicial custody in a theft case.

Priyanka’s father in Law, Kanchan Singh told TOI that his grandson was in Simran’s lap and she was sitting with her nine-year-old sister Kinjal. He said the unidentified woman forcibly took the baby from Simran’s lap on pretext of playing with him and then disappeared.
Singh, who was at the police station to know the whereabouts of his abducted grandson, told TOI said Umang was the only child of his son and daughter-in-law, Virendra and Priyanka.

He said that Priyanka's mother has been crying since the child was abducted. “She had lost one and a half month old her first baby girl three years ago and now her second baby has been abducted,” said Singh.
Aligarh SSP, Akash Kulhari, said that kid’s photographs have been circulated everywhere, including social media and WhatsApp groups of the police. Every bus stand and nearby places are being checked. He said a sketch of suspected abductor is being prepared to identify her.

He said the CCTV installed in the jail premises was not functional, but they are scanning footage from CCTV installed at nearby shops and other places in the vicinity.
According to jail authorities, CCTV was not functional since 12am last night due to hailstorm and it started working after 12pm on Friday.
Describing the suspected woman’s appearance, circle officer of Civil Lines Anil Samaniya said that the woman was about 25-year-old and was wearing cream coloured salwar suit. She appeared married as she had ‘sindoor’ in her hair parting.
He said that about 318 people came to meet their relatives lodged in Aligarh’s district jail on Friday and all pictures were being shown to the child’s family. But the suspected woman was not found among them.
He told TOI that eyewitnesses had seen the woman taking away the child in a three-wheeler.
