AHMEDABAD: Seven hooligans out of more than 15 who went on rampage in Maninagar on Saturday evening damaging vehicles and shops, were arrested by cops on Monday. Senior police officials said that they have identified the remaining accused and the hunt is on to nab them.
Maninagar police arrested Narendra Patil, Mahesh Rana and Punam Patel, all residents of Khokhra, for the Saturday night incident.
Police seized weapons and baseball bats used by the accused in the attack. "Our aim is not only to arrest the accused but to intensify patrolling in the area and prevent hooligans from carrying out such attacks," said police inspector of Maninagar police station V J Gadhvi.
In the same case, four other accused - Manoj Goswami, Mukesh Goswami, Rahul Prajapati and Ashok Tiwari - were arrested by Vatva GIDC police on Monday. "We will hand over the accused to Maninagar police for further probe," said Vatva GIDC police inspector Z A Shaikh.
Meanwhile, Danilimda police arrested three persons on Monday for ransacking restaurants near Narol Circle on Sunday night. Police inspector of Danilimda police station, Moin Shaikh said that they arrested Mehmood Shaikh, his nephew Shahid Saiyed and Mehmood's employee Rehman Shaikh for the incident.
"The trio, after getting drunk, went to a restaurant near the circle. Following a dispute with the hotel owner, they went on rampage, damaging furniture and glass panes of two restaurants. We have recovered iron rods from them," said inspector of Danilimda police station Moin Shaikh.
On Monday afternoon, joint commissioner of police, sector-2, Manoj Shashidhar held a meeting with his subordinate officers and instructed them to stay vigilant so that incidents that happened in Maninagar and Danilimda are not repeated.
