AHMEDABAD: There has been a stupendous rise in the number of fake student concession passes and Ramatvir' passes given to sportsmen by Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS). In the past seven days, AMTS authorities have caught 15 people with fake passes. The offenders consist of not just people from the lower strata, but also IT professionals.
A team headed by assistant manager of vigilance department and flying squad of AMTS Narendra Parmar caught 15 students from various locations with fake cards. A total fine of Rs 1.01 lakh was collected from them.
In the last one-and-a-half years, AMTS has collected a fine of Rs 60 lakh from fake pass holders. This only shows the number of fake passes that are in circulation.
Explaining the modus operandi, Parmar said, "In case of student pass, a person buys a form and gets head of the institute's signature. After that, the form is sold to a dubious person, who replaces the genuine photograph with his own."
