Ahmedabad: GU Road tree cutting ‘illegal’, complaint alleges

Ahmedabad: It has been alleged that around 12.15am on Monday night, the AMC garden department carried out illegal tree trimming. A complaint claimed that branches and even full trees blocking the visibility of advertisement boards mounted on streetlight poles along Gujarat University Road were cut.

Advocate Atik Saiyed said, “Trees were unlawfully cut and extensively trimmed on Gujarat University Road. This was done without prior approval or any environmental justification, purely for the financial gain of a private agency. Officials of the garden department and contractors misused their powers and colluded with the advertising agency to remove trees. We demand a probe against the garden department’s principal director and cancellation of the agency’s licence.”
