Ahmedabad: Light showers in several areas bring respite from heat

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast for the city indicated chances of cloudy skies on Tuesday with “one or two spells of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.” The maximum temperature is forecast to be around 41 degrees celsius on Tuesday. On Monday, several areas in the city received light showers. Amdavadis enjoyed the respite from the heat.
On Monday, the city’s maximum temperature was 40.8 degrees celsius, 0.5 degrees lower than normal. On the other hand, the minimum temperature at 30 degrees was 1.9 degrees higher than normal. The relative humidity was 59% at 8.30am.
The IMD bulletin indicated three systems in the form of upper air cyclonic circulation around the region that would affect the weather.
“No large change in maximum temperatures during the next two days likely,” the forecast said. “Thereafter, a gradual fall by 2-4 degrees celsius is very likely.”
The IMD forecast indicated a chance of moderate thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds across the state, including in districts such as Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Kutch, Surendranagar, and Mehsana.
Surendranagar recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41 degrees on Monday, followed by 40.8 degrees in Ahmedabad, 40.5 degrees in Gandhinagar, and 40.4 degrees in Rajkot.
