Ahmedabad: Manager embezzles ₹1.5L from CG Road showroom
Ahmedabad: A manager at a readymade garments showroom on CG Road has been accused of misappropriating Rs 1.54 lakh from sales cash meant for deposit in the company’s bank account, police said.
A complaint was lodged at Navrangpura police station on Thursday. According to the complaint, the showroom follows a policy of depositing cash in the company account whenever the amount on hand reaches about Rs 8,000. The accused, who joined as manager in March last year, was responsible for customer billing, maintaining accounts and depositing daily cash collections.
The alleged irregularity came to light when the company’s head office reviewed the cash ledger and found that Rs 1.83 lakh was recorded as cash in hand. When questioned, the manager allegedly told the accounts team that the bank was closed on March 31, and later said the bank server was down, assuring them that the money would be deposited once banking services resumed.
The complaint states that by the first week of April, total sales cash had allegedly risen to Rs 1.99 lakh. However, a physical verification of the cash drawer found only Rs 45,000, leaving Rs 1.54 lakh unaccounted for. According to the complainant, when confronted, the manager allegedly admitted to using the Rs 1.54 lakh for personal purposes and submitted a written apology, promising to return the amount within a few days. No repayment was made, the complaint says.
The company alleged that after repeated reminders and a visit by an area manager, the accused stopped reporting to work. An earlier complaint had been put on hold after he allegedly promised to repay Rs 20,000 every month. When no repayment followed, the company filed a complaint with Navrangpura police.
