Ahmedabad sizzles at 43.7°C, hottest in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad continued to reel under an intense heatwave on Tuesday as the city emerged as the hottest place in Gujarat, with the maximum temperature touching 43.7 degrees celsius — 1.7 degrees above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The heat showed little sign of easing even after sunset. The minimum temperature settled at 28.6 degrees celsius, which was also 1.1 degrees above normal, making for an unusually warm night.

The IMD has forecast that Ahmedabad was likely to witness similar conditions on Wednesday, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 44 degrees celsius.

While no major change in temperatures is expected over the next 24 hours across Gujarat, the weather department has indicated a gradual fall of 2-3 degrees celsius thereafter. However, it cautioned that maximum temperatures are likely to remain above 40 degrees celsius at isolated pockets in the state over the next seven days.

Ahmedabad was not alone in battling the heat. Several other cities across Gujarat also recorded searing temperatures on Tuesday. Rajkot registered 43.6 degrees celsius, followed by Gandhinagar at 43.2 degrees, Amreli at 43.1 degrees, and Surendranagar at 43 degrees celsius.
