Delivery rider injured as AMTS bus ploughs into vehicles
Ahmedabad: An AMTS bus, allegedly suffering a brake failure, rammed into multiple vehicles in the Naranpura area of the city on Thursday morning, injuring a food delivery executive and triggering claims that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The accident took place around 11.20am near the Naranpura railway crossing, close to Niketan Society and Kalash Residency. According to the FIR, the complainant, a delivery rider for a food delivery platform, was heading on his two-wheeler to deliver a parcel when the AMTS bus allegedly approached from behind at high speed and struck his motorcycle.City traffic police officials said the bus, plying on the 400 circular route from Lal Darwaza, dragged the rider and his vehicle underneath after the collision. The victim sustained injuries to the head and other parts of the body, though police termed them minor. His motorcycle also suffered damage. The bus then allegedly brushed against a car coming from the opposite direction, damaging its side, before crashing into another parked car near the compound wall of Kalash Residency-2. The impact pushed the parked car into a tree, causing extensive damage to its front and rear portions.
An electric two-wheeler parked ahead of the car was also damaged.Residents gathered at the spot soon after the accident and allegedly detained the driver before handing him over to the police. Locals claimed the driver appeared to be intoxicated while driving, though officials said this would be confirmed only after medical tests and further investigation.
