394 cases of dengue, 35 of chikungunya reported in 21 days

Ahmedabad: The city recorded 394 cases of dengue, 79 of simple malaria, four cases of severe malaria, and 35 cases of chikungunya from Sep 1 to 21, according to the epidemic statistics released by the AMC's health department on Monday. Additionally, in these 21 days, there were 351 cases of gastroenteritis, 342 of jaundice, 404 of typhoid, and three cases of cholera.From Jan 1 to Sep 21, Ahmedabad city reported 621 cases of malaria, 74 of severe malaria, 1,502 cases of dengue, and 106 cases of chikungunya. In Aug alone, three children died from dengue. An 11-year-old girl in Vasna and a 12-year-old girl in Vastral died due to dengue. Another 11-year-old girl in Behrampura also succumbed to the disease. A total of 805 dengue cases were reported in 2023, while 1,502 cases have been recorded up to Sep 21 this year. From Sep 1 to 21, the AMC tested 72,216 blood samples and 9,656 serum samples. They also conducted chlorine tests on 64,141 water samples, with 344 samples testing negative. Bacteriological tests were conducted on 4,301 water samples, of which 87 were found unfit.Mosquito menace has increased in Ahmedabad, prompting the health department to inspect construction sites, commercial complexes and educational institutions to prevent mosquito breeding. From Jan 1 to Sep 22, inspections were conducted at 8,359 construction sites, resulting in 28,000 notices being issued and Rs 1.52 crore being collected in fines from sites where mosquito breeding was detected.
