Gujarat ranks 16th in Electric Mobility Index: Cong
Ahmedabad: The state unit of the Congress party said on Monday that while PM Narendra Modi has urged citizens to increasingly adopt electric vehicles (EVs), the state ranks 22nd in providing EV charging points, 27th in adoption of commercial EVs, and Gujarat’s overall position in the India Electric Mobility Index stands at 16th nationwide.
Party spokesperson Hiren Banker alleged that the state govt has failed to create infrastructure for growth of EVs and ensure effective implementation of its EV promotion policy. “Women should be given additional subsidies for purchasing electric vehicles, and SGST on electric vehicles should be abolished for the next 10 years,” he demanded.
Quoting a report of policy think tank Niti Aayog, Banker said that Gujarat’s ranking in promotion of electric vehicle purchase and operation is 17th, 12th in the field of R&D in the EV sector, and 15th nationwide in adoption of private EVs.
“Gujarat is not even among the top 10 states in promoting, purchasing, and developing infrastructure for electric vehicles,” Banker said.
