Gujarat to play a major role in Viksit Bharat 2047: CM
Ahmedabad: Gujarat will play a major role in making India a developed nation by 2047, chief minister Bhupendra Patel said while inaugurating the GCCI annual trade expo GATE-2026 at the Helipad Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar on Thursday. Addressing industry leaders and exhibitors, Patel said Gujarat's strong industrial base, policy support and entrepreneurial culture would drive the state's contribution to the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. He said Gujarat is focusing on emerging sectors such as semiconductors and aims to build a $3.5 trillion economy by 2047. "Gujarat contributes 8.3% in India's GDP, 18% in industrial output and around 31% in the exports," CM said."Gujarat's entrepreneurial spirit, robust industrial ecosystem and commitment to innovation will ensure that the state plays a major role in making India a developed nation by 2047," Patel said. The chief minister said the state govt remains committed to ease of doing business, policy stability, and sustainable economic growth under the Viksit Gujarat 2047 vision. He stressed the importance of green growth, renewable energy and sustainability-led industrialisation, saying Gujarat's development strategy is aligned with global environmental goals.Patel also highlighted flagship initiatives, including the Gujarat semiconductor mission, GIFT City and the state's logistics policy, saying these have positioned Gujarat at the forefront of next-generation industries. The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) said this year's edition of GATE has expanded significantly. GCCI president Sandeep Engineer said the expo has more than doubled in scale compared to previous editions, with participation from over 500 exhibitors and more than 30,000 unique registrations.Engineer said Deloitte India is preparing a comprehensive long-term roadmap for GCCI, leading up to 2047, aimed at supporting the state's industrial and economic ambitions.Jinal Mehta, vice chairman and managing director of Torrent Power Ltd said energy security and sustainability are central to industrial growth and economic resilience. He said the power sector will play a critical role in supporting expansion, especially amid global geopolitical uncertainties. Mehta said ongoing international conflicts have made energy security synonymous with national security, underlining the need for self-reliance in power generation.Several industry representatives were present at the inaugural session, including Credai's national president Shekhar Patel, former GCCI president Ajay Patel, senior vice president of GCCI Rajesh Gandhi and others.
