Gujarat trader loses car after Rs 1.5 lakh cheque after sale bounces
Ahmedabad: A cloth trader was allegedly cheated of his car after accepting a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh that was later dishonoured. In a complaint filed with Sarkhej police, the trader from Dholka said he decided to sell his vehicle due to urgent financial needs arising from his child's health condition. He advertised the car for sale on social media and, last Sep, received a call from a prospective buyer. After negotiations, the deal was finalised at Rs 1.5 lakh.
According to the complaint, the buyer asked him to come to a spot near a hotel in Sarkhej to complete the transaction. There, the vehicle was inspected and sale documents were prepared. The trader told police, "The buyer took possession of the original RC book and a copy of his Aadhaar card as part of the paperwork."The complainant alleged that he received Rs 5,000 in cash on the spot, along with a cheque for Rs 1.5 lakh to cover the remaining amount. The buyer reportedly assured him that the cheque would clear if deposited the following day. However, when the trader deposited the cheque, it was returned unpaid. "I called the buyer who told me that he would pay the remaining amount in cash within two to three days. The payment was never made, and the car was also not returned," he told police. Police said they are examining the allegations under sections related to cheating and criminal breach of trust. Further investigation is underway.
