Gujarat: Two students caught with electronic devices in board exams

Ahmedabad: Two instances of alleged malpractice surfaced during board exams on Saturday. Both cases involved electronic devices barred inside exam halls. One student was found with a mobile phone during a chemistry paper in Ahmedabad city, while another was caught wearing a digital watch in Ognaj. Officials said copying cases have been registered in both matters.In Ahmedabad city, a Class 12 science student was caught carrying a mobile phone during the chemistry exam. The student, enrolled at Damubhai Shukla English Medium School in Paldi, had been allotted Ankur School, also in Paldi, as her exam centre. According to officials, the incident surfaced around 5.45pm, roughly 45 minutes before the paper was scheduled to end at 6.30pm. A supervisor became suspicious of the student's conduct and conducted a check, during which a mobile phone was found in her possession.
According to board rules, bringing a mobile phone into the exam hall constitutes a serious violation. A copying case was registered against the student, and further action, including initiation of the process to file a police complaint, was set in motion.In a separate case in Ognaj, under the Ahmedabad rural district education office, a student appearing for the Class 12 general stream business administration exam at Tatvamasi School was found wearing a digital watch. Officials said the student had concealed the device. The supervisor seized the watch, and a copying case was registered in this instance as well.Board authorities reiterated that strict monitoring is in place across exam centres to curb unfair practices and ensure transparency and fairness in the ongoing exams.
