India at most consequential moment in modern history: Sajjan Jindal
Ahmedabad: Industrialist Sajjan Jindal on Friday said India was at “the most consequential moment in its modern history”. Delivering the convocation address at the 16th convocation ceremony of Ahmedabad University, Jindal, who is also the managing director of JSW Group, urged graduating students to help bridge the economic gap between India and China.
“India, despite having a population comparable to China, had a GDP that was roughly one-fifth of its neighbour’s economy. Think about what that gap means. The scale of what needs to be built. That gap for me is the opportunity. It is an opportunity for the Class of 2026 to bridge that gap between India and China,” he said. Calling India “not a market, but a mission”, Jindal asked students to focus on work that made the country stronger and urged them to become institution-builders.
The JSW Group chairman also urged students to “build boldly, build with integrity and build for India”, while underlining the importance of resilience, ethics and institution-building.
Ahmedabad University conferred 923 degrees across its schools of management, arts and sciences, and engineering and applied sciences during the convocation ceremony. The graduating batch comprised 669 undergraduate, 241 master’s and 13 doctoral students.
Students were recognized for achievements in engineering innovation, scientific research and national-level competitions, including presentations at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly in Vienna.
