Three held for selling Chinese manja

Ahmedabad: Amraiwadi police on Friday arrested three persons — Asifkhan Pathan (26), a resident of Gomtipur, Tufail Ansari (30), a resident of the Rajpur area in Gomtipur, and Sonu Anif (20), a resident of the Raipur area in Gomtipur — with 744 spools of Chinese manja. The thread was to be sold in the market for the upcoming Uttarayan festival, police said. The state forest department and the police commissioner of Ahmedabad have prohibited the sale and use of Chinese thread for kite flying. In the last week of Nov, a courier delivery man, Himanshu Rana, succumbed to injuries caused by Chinese thread in the Ghodasar area of the city.
