AHMEDABAD: Two
SIMI activists, Mohammad Shafiq Ansari alias Barabhai and Mohammed Yunus Omar who were arrested in Ujjain last month by Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorists Squad (ATS) officials, were handed over to Gujarat police. They were brought to city on Thursday morning and produced in the court.
According to crime branch officials, the duo, native of Ujjain, was conversant with nearby forest areas in Madhya Pradesh where suspected SIMI activities were going on till recently.
They are said to have strong links with Indian Mujahideen (IM), a terror outfit that was named in a number of serial blasts in the country including Ahmedabad.
"The duo was not involved directly in the serial blasts that took place in the city. However, they were involved in a bigger conspiracy where the members planned a number of serial blasts across the country. They had suspected involvement in Jaipur blasts in 2006. The questioning will reveal their activities after the blasts," said a senior crime branch official.
The officials said that they have prepared a remand application that will be submitted to the court on Friday.
