AJMER: The Central University of Rajasthan (CU) on Monday expelled four students permanently and suspended five students for one year following a report from the disciplinary committee.
The students, pursuing various post-graduate level courses, came to know about the expulsion when they came to the examination hall for their final exams on Monday morning.

Four of the students were not allowed to take the examination, while five others have been only allowed to appear in this year’s exams. The students later sat on indefinite dharna at the university gate.
According to sources, Subhash Sharma, Gaurav Kumar, Bhanwar Singh and Hansraj Bagariya have been expelled permanently from the university, while Mahender Jat, Nitesh Choudhary, Pawan and Sandeep Choudhary have been suspended for one year and Sunil Chopra suspended for one year from the hostel.
The disciplinary committee took the decision after investigating a brawl that occurred between students and the mess staff on March 24 over the quality of food served. Students alleged that the administration took the decision unilaterally without hearing them. The students had then gone on protest against the poor quality of food served, and the administration had assured them of taking action against the mess staff.

“The university proctor handed us the expulsion letters 10 minutes before the exam was to start today,” said Gaurav Sharma, MSc IVth semester student, who has been expelled.
The expulsion letter, signed by the proctor, stated, “As recommended by students’ discipline committee and approved by competent authority… (the name of the student) is found guilty of indiscipline under CU ordinance 47 rule 3.3, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9, 3.10 and 3.16.” The order concludes by saying that the students have been expelled from the university with immediate effect
Students staged protests and said it would destroy their future. After the examination, students burnt the effigy of vice-chancellor Prof A Pujari in the evening.
Meanwhile, university officials said that action was taken after the committee looked into the matter and followed rules against creating indiscipline in the campus.
