ALLAHABAD: Four were injured when two groups of inmates clashed inside Naini
Central Jail on Thursday. Both groups used knives and sharp-edged weapons freely during the free-for-all. While two of the injured - Dilip Mishra and Awadesh Mishra-- were undergoing treatment at Jail Hospital, Pramod and Motu Mali were admitted to SRN Hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.
According to reports, Pramod, Vicky and Motu Mali attacked their rival group, comprising Dilip and Awadesh Mishra, on the jail premises. Before the jail authorities could react, both sides suffered injuries in the clash. After being informed, senior jail authorities rushed to the spot and rushed the injured to hospitals. The exact reason behind the clash was yet to be ascertained.
However, sources said that both groups wanted to impose their supremacy among inmates. Sources said that Dilip was in jail on charges of attacking a former state cabinet minister. Motu Mali was a notorious criminal and had escaped from police custody by jumping off from a prison van near Balson Crossing in April. He had later surrendered before a court. Despite repeated efforts, senior jail superintendent Ambrish Guar could not be contacted for comments.
