ALLAHABAD: The 10-day long Ganesh Chaturthi festivities concluded on Sunday with the immersion of the idols of Lord Ganesha and other deities at several artificial ponds made for the purpose by the district administration.
Heavy security arrangements were made around the immersion site to avoid any untoward incident.
According to official figures, the number of pandals doubled this year forcing district administration to counter problems of maintaining law and order during the immersion.
The vehicular traffic movement was managed at several spots to allow the processions for immersion.
Personnel of civil defence corps were also deployed at several spots.
The Katra Ganesh Utsav Committee immersed the idol of Lord Ganesh, Kartikey among others in a huge procession accompanied by DJs. ‘Prasad’ was also distributed to the passers by on way to the pond.
“It is a sad moment for me as after being a part of my life for past 10 days, Lord Ganesha today departed. We used to hold regular ‘arti’and ‘ratri jagran’ during these days,” said Mohini Kapoor a Lord Ganesha devout.
