FIR filed for ₹30L insurance fraud using forged death papers
Prayagraj: Civil Lines police have registered an FIR in connection with an alleged insurance fraud in which Rs 30 lakh was claimed using forged documents, including a fake death certificate and fabricated FIR copies.
The fraud came to light during a re-verification process after discrepancies were found in documents submitted by the nominee. The insurance company has lodged a complaint against Rajiv Tripathi and his wife Durgesh Nandini, of Bhadohi.
SHO (Civil Lines) Ramashraya Yadav said a probe has been initiated and further action will follow based on findings.
According to police, an insurance policy was taken in 2025 in the name of Rajiv Tripathi. After paying one premium instalment, it was reported that the policyholder had died in a road accident in Mirzapur on Jan 25, 2025.
Documents submitted by the nominee, DN Tripathi — including copies of the FIR, panchnama and postmortem report — initially appeared genuine, leading to approval of the claim. The company subsequently disbursed Rs 30 lakh to the nominee.
However, when the nominee later applied for an additional accidental benefit, inconsistencies surfaced between the original file and the accident report. Subsequent re-verification by the agency and police revealed that the documents were allegedly fabricated.
