NCR athletes shine in inter-railway competitions

Prayagraj: North Central Railway (NCR) players made the zone proud by performing excellently in various inter-railway competitions held in the last week of March. The players along with their coaches called on the NCR general manager Upendra Chandra Joshi in his office and apprised him of the achievements.The GM interacted with each player, congratulated them on their achievements, and wished them better performance in the future. The GM hoped that in the future, they would achieve similar feats for NCR and the nation.The NCR team won bronze in the Inter Railway Women's Hockey Championship held at MCF Rae Bareli (UP) from March 22 to 28. The coach of the team was Neelam, and the manager was Rachna Chaurasia. The women's hockey team of NCR, comprising Gurjit Kaur and Nisha Warsi along with other outstanding players, defeated the defending champion South Eastern Railway by 5-3 in the bronze medal match. It is to be noted that despite continuously participating in this competition since 2013, NCR achieved this feat for the first time this year. Earlier, the best performance was fourth place in 2023.In the same sequence, in the Inter Railway Gymnastics Competition held in Kolkata from March 28 to 30, the team of NCR secured third position in the team championship. The coach of this team was Devendra Jha, and the assistant coach was Devesh. In the competition, Aditya Singh Rana became the all-round best gymnast, and Ankur Sharma became the all-round second-best gymnast. Aditya Singh Rana won silver in floor and gold in rings, Ashish Kumar won gold in floor, Siddharth Verma won gold in pommel horse, and Ankur Sharma won silver in parallel bars.Apart from this, Amit Kumar, working in NCR Headquarters, won the silver medal in the Inter Railway Golf Championship held at BLW, Varanasi from March 24 to 26. His score in the event was 4 under in 36 holes.
