TIRUPATI: The Hindupur police on Sunday arrested a 26-year-old man from
Telangana in connection with the murder case of a woman recently reported at a lodge at Hindupur in Sri Sathya Sai district recently.
The accused was identified as Pisingi Mahesh Varma, a resident of Eturnagaram town in Mulugu district of Telangana.
It may be recalled that the Hindupur police found a woman identified as Akshita (32) dead under mysterious circumstances at a lodge at Hindupur on August 24.
Akshita, a post graduate student of diplomate of national board in Gynaecology who was married to an orthopaedician from Warangal and has a two year old daughter. Akshita was now pursuing her education at the Chikkaballapur government medical college in Karnataka, about 50 kms from Hindupur.
During the course of the investigation, police found out that the accused Pisingi Mahesh Varma, had previous crime history and that a woman harassment case was registered against him at the Ramachandrapuram police station in Telangana.
After serving a brief jail term in that case, Mahesh Varma, who came out of jail, began to work as an interior assistant and during one of his official tours, he gained acquaintance with Akshitha, during a bus journey and he started to follow her on Instagram a few months ago.
On July 2nd, the accused went to Chikkaballapur government medical college and proposed to Akshita that he was in deep love with her. Though she refused, stating that she was already married and had a two year old daughter, the accused did not leave her and continued to harass her.
He even went to the extreme of threatening her of morphing her pics with nude images and warned her that he would upload those pics on the internet and the social media if she did not budge.
And Akshita who was left with no choice was went to Bengaluru, where she was raped by the accused.
When Akshita pleaded with Mahesh to leave her alone, he promised to hand over her morphed pics and asked her to come to a private lodge at Hindupur on August 24. The accused once again raped her and later choked her to death using a pillow. He abandoned her body in the room itself and escaped from the crime scene.
The Hindupur police who took up the investigation of the case prestigiously, managed to arrest the accused near the new railway station on Sunday.
Sri Sathya Sai district SP Rahul Dev Singh appreciated the efforts put in by Hindupur II town CI Venkateswarulu and his team in resolving the sensitive case within four days and for arresting the culprit involved in the murder of the medico.
