BATHINDA: Morinda sacrilege case accused Jasvir Singh, was incarcerated in Mansa jail, died in civil hospital late on Monday evening after he had breathing trouble.
He was taken to Mansa civil hospital by the jail authorities after he felt uncomfortable and had trouble breathing. The hospital recorded the sacrilege accused's arrival for treatment at 4.10pm. His condition became serious at around 8pm and he died at around 9pm.
Jasvir Singh (36) had jumped over the railing of the sanctum sanctorum at Gurdwara Kotwali Sahib in Morinda on April 24 and hit the granthi before the desecration of the holy book.

He was badly beaten up by the people at the spot and the police took him into custody at the gurdwara.
A lawyer had tried to kill him in court on April 27
The accused escaped an attempt on his life in a court on April 27 when a lawyer, identified as Sahib Singh Khural, tried to shoot him at point blank range but the pistol’s trigger didn’t work. The court sent Jasvir to judicial custody and he was brought to Mansa jail on April 30. Mansa senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nanak Singh told TOI that “while he was feeling uneasy, he was taken to Mansa civil hospital where he breathed his last after some time. His body has been kept in mortuary and a postmortem will be conducted on Tuesday.
The police will look into the circumstances leading to his demise and will investigate all angles.” Sources said that all the issues relating to his death will be investigated, including whether he was tortured or died a natural death. SGPC general secretary Gurcharan Singh Grewal told TOI: "Culprits deserve such punishment, but the sudden death needs to be investigated. It is third instance under this government and yet it has not come out with the truth behind these instances and if there was any conspiracy
