Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: AIMIM called off its proposed morcha on Saturday after receiving assurances from the city police, with the party's state president and former MP Imtiaz Jaleel saying that AIMIM had full faith in the police's handling of law and order.
Jaleel said the decision was taken following a meeting with police commissioner Pravin Pawar on Saturday afternoon.
"The police commissioner has been taking effective and concrete action against drug traffickers and illegal activities. We trust the police action taken to maintain law and order in the city," Jaleel told reporters.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of recent attacks on AIMIM workers and an attack on Jaleel's vehicle. Jaleel and the top cop held detailed discussions for nearly one and a half hours.
Jaleel said police had taken all the accused into custody in cases related to attacks on party workers, but he expressed displeasure over one of the main accused being granted interim bail by a court. He alleged that the bail was granted without hearing the police's arguments, and further legal steps would be taken at an appropriate time.
Jaleel earlier also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in the registration of an offence in the case related to the attack on his vehicle, following which the party announced a morcha to the police commissionerate. However, citing a positive discussion and assurances from the police commissioner, AIMIM decided to withdraw the protest.
