Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: BJP's Sameer Rajurkar, the newly elected mayor of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, said ensuring uninterrupted water supply and improving garbage management to keep the city clean would be his key priorities.
Rajurkar was elected mayor during a special meeting of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation on Tuesday. In the 115-member House, he secured 70 votes, defeating
AIMIM's mayoral candidate Ashok Hiwrale, who received 33 votes.
Shiv Sena's Rajendra Janjal was elected deputy mayor, also with 70 votes, against AIMIM's Waseem Ahmed. Other parties, including Sena (UBT) and VBA, chose to abstain from voting.
"With the support of Centre and state govt, we will ensure 24x7 water supply without any interruptions. Waste disposal is a shared responsibility and we will tackle this challenge through public involvement," Rajurkar said, adding that he would work in line with the vision of CM Devendra Fadnavis, who has emphasised the need to improve the municipal corporation's image.
"The people have placed their trust in us and we will make every effort to fulfil the CM's vision," he said.
Addressing concerns about potential friction with AIMIM and Sena (UBT) corporators in the opposition, Rajurkar said the municipal corporation would function strictly according to established rules and regulations.
Deputy mayor Janjal said Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar was poised for development on multiple fronts. "We aim to make this city a model for others. It already stands out as an industrial and tourism hub, and we plan to enhance that identity further," he said.
