Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Jalna police on Saturday said they have cracked the murder case reported from the Nutan Vasahat area with the arrest of two youths allegedly involved in the killing of Charan Raimallu (27), a driver employed by a newly elected BJP woman corporator. A local court remanded both accused to five days of police custody for further investigation.
The police said the incident took place around 8.30pm on Friday on the district hospital road in Jalna city, when two youths arrived on a scooter and opened fire on Raimallu using a country-made pistol. Raimallu sustained head shots and died while being shifted to a private hospital.
Superintendent of police Ajaykumar Bansal said the case was cracked within hours due to swift and coordinated action by multiple teams. "Both accused were arrested, and they confessed to their involvement in the murder. Preliminary investigation suggests the crime was the outcome of an old rivalry," Bansal said. He said the accused have been taken on police remand to probe all aspects of the case, including the source of the weapon used in the firing.
Additional SP Ayush Nopany said special teams were immediately formed after the incident, and a massive combing operation was launched across the city and surrounding areas.
"Based on technical inputs and ground intelligence, we intercepted the suspects around 2am on Saturday at Kajla Phata on Ambad Road," Nopany said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ajay Amlekar and Aman Dhillod, both residents of the Matoshri Lawn area in Jalna. Police said one of the accused had a prior criminal record.
Investigators are examining whether both accused were armed at the time of the offence and whether any other people were involved in the crime. CCTV footage from nearby locations and the movements of the accused before and after the murder are also being scrutinised.
