MLC Danve alleges irregularities in seven Jalna minor irrigation tenders, seeks probe
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Shiv Sena (UBT) member Ambadas Danve has demanded a high-level probe into alleged irregularities in seven tenders issued by the Jalna minor irrigation department for constructing flood protection walls.
In a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on June 4, former leader of opposition in state legislative council Danve stated that the tendering process for works in Ghansawangi and Ambad talukas of Jalna district showed suspicious patterns, raising concerns about transparency and fair competition.
According to the letter, tenders worth about Rs 85.5 lakh were floated on March 23 this year for flood protection projects at seven locations. Four contractors had submitted bids for all seven tenders. Danve stated in the letter that during the technical evaluation stage, two contractors were declared ineligible across all tenders. “Of the remaining bidders, a single contractor was eventually awarded all the seven projects,” the letter stated, arguing that such identical outcomes in multiple tenders cast serious doubt on the integrity of the process.
Danve also alleged in the letter the possibility of collusion between contractors, the existence of sham competition and deliberate manipulation in the tendering procedure. He further urged state govt to conduct an independent and comprehensive inquiry into the entire exercise. “This should include an examination of the technical evaluation process, reasons for disqualifying bidders and the manner in which final work orders were approved,” Danve stated in the letter.
He also called for strict action against any officials, employees or contractors found guilty of irregularities.
Warning that he would raise the issue during the upcoming monsoon session of the state assembly if no action is taken, Danve said a proper investigation could reveal larger systemic issues. “These allegations may be just the tip of the iceberg. Such developments have brought the tendering process of the Jalna minor irrigation department under scrutiny. A thorough probe is essential to ensure accountability and uphold public confidence in govt contracts,” he stated in the letter.
