Sangli youth dies during 1,600m run at Railway Police recruitment drive in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:Sangram Shinde, a 24-year-old from Morale village of Sangli's Palus taluka, died during a 1,600m run at the Government Railway Police recruitment drive at the police parade ground in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Saturday morning.At 8.38am, Shinde suddenly collapsed just before the finishing line after completing three rounds as part of the 1,600m run and was immediately attended by the health officials present on the spot. He was then taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where he died during treatment, sub-inspector Nivrutti Gayake, of the Cidco police, said.The recruitment drive began on Friday for 93 posts of constables. On Saturday, the ground test of a total of 907 candidates was scheduled. Of them, 678 candidates appeared, and screening of 591 candidates took place, the GRP officials said.Superintendent of police (GRP) Swati Bhor said a medical team, an ambulance and necessary medical facilities were in place to deal with any health emergency during the recruitment drive, which she said also had CCTV surveillance."All the facts regarding the unfortunate death of the Sangli candidate will come forward after the postmortem report. We had arranged for water and fruits at the recruitment venue, and all candidates were instructed to take adequate food and water," she said.The postmortem of the deceased candidate took place at the GMCH on Saturday evening. The Cidco police have registered a case of accidental death in connection with the incident.Notably, Deepak Wavhale, a 26-year-old Parli youth taking part in a police recruitment drive in Beed, had died after complaining of uneasiness following the mandatory 1,600m run on Feb 11.
