BAREILLY: The Bareilly Municipal Corporation has also sent notice to five primary schools whose buildings can collapse anytime. The schools authorities have been asked to shift to safer locations within 15 days, which the education department officials say is a tough task.
The government primary schools that need to be vacant are located in Sufi Tola, Gangapur, Shahbad, Kherja Zafar Khan and Khalilpur localities.
The BMC has no record of the total number of students studying in these schools. Satish Kumar, executive engineer of construction department, BMC said, “If school authorities need more time for shifting, we can extend the date of deadline but it is necessary for them to vacant the building.”
He added, “The duty of BMC is to warn them about the risk of running schools in dilapidated buildings but it is the education department which will have to make alternative arrangements. If they are unable to do so on their own, they can approach district authorities for help.”
However, when contacted, additional director (basic education) Shashi Devi Sharma said she is unaware about the notice served to five schools. “In such case, we will shift the students to a nearby school running in the area for immediate relief. However, as we lack funds, we will bring the matter to the notice of senior officials. We will take further action as per instructions provided by senior officials.”
