BAREILLY: A 40-year-old man allegedly shot at and killed his 35-year-old widow sister-in-law for a 35 bigha land that belonged to his brother. The incident occurred at Kyara village under Cantonment police station on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
According to deceased’s cousin, accused Sarvesh Pal Singh had been issuing death threats to victim Ritu Singh as he wanted to usurp her husband’s land.
“Ritu’s husband Jaipal Singh was a farmer and had been cultivating the 35 bigha land. He died in 2015 due to cancer. After Jaipal’s death, his younger brother Sarvesh had been eyeing to grab his land. Ritu and her three kids were depended on the land for survival. For quite some time, Sarvesh was issuing death threats to Ritu in want of the land,” deceased’s cousin Dheerendra Pratap Singh said.
“On Friday around 12:30 am I heard the sound of gun firing from Ritu’s house. My house is near Ritu’s. Within 5 minutes, Ritu’s elder daughter Radha, 14, came to my house and informed about the incident. I immediately rushed there and saw her body on bed. Meanwhile, Sarvesh fled. I then informed the police,” Dheerendra said.
Cantonment police station house officer (SHO) Devendra Kumar, said, “After getting the information, we reached the spot. We have sent the body for post-mortem. Following a complaint by deceased’s cousin, an FIR was lodged against the accused under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).”
