BANGALORE: The state government has barred eight medical and eight dental colleges from admitting students through CET for 2003-2004, according to the medical and dental seat matrix.

BANGALORE: The state government has barred eight medical and eight dental colleges from admitting students through CET for 2003-2004, according to the medical and dental seat matrix.
The eight medical colleges that have been barred include: Khaja Bhanda Nawaz Medical College, Chitradurga; Basaveshwara Medical College, Chitradurga; M.V.J.Medical College, Bangalore; S.Nijalingappa Medical College, Bagalkot; K.V.J.Medical College, Sullia; Navodaya Medical College, Raichur; Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore and K.S.

The eight dental colleges that have been barred include: Maratha Mandal Dental College, Belgaum; Hasanamba Dental College, Hassan; KGF Dental College, KGF; KLE Dental College, Bangalore; Farouquia Dental College, Mysore; S.B. Patil Dental College, Bidar; N.S.V.K. Dental College, Bangalore and H.K.E. Dental College, Gulbarga. A total of 2,467 medical seats and 1,970 dental seats are available in 21 medical colleges and 32 dental colleges for seat selection for students during 2003-2004. The CET Cell will admit students to the St.John’s Medical College also.
Of the total 2,467 medical seats, 960 seats have been set aside for 25 per cent reservation and general merit seats (category I government seats), 742 seats have been set aside for 40 per cent Karnataka seats (category II — government seats), 161 seats are available for ten per cent non-Karnataka seats (category III — government seats) and 604 seats are available for management quota (category IV).
Out of the 960 seats in the 25 per cent reservation and general merit seats (category I government seats), 33 seats are reserved for special category, 463 seats are reserved for reservation category ( SC-139, ST-28, 2A-139, 2B-37, 3A-37, 3B-46, cat I - 37) and 464 seats are reserved for general merit category (GM-323, GMR-61, GMK-20, All India quota — 60). Of the 33 seats reserved for special categories, five seats are available for NCC quota candidates, eight seats for sports, three seats for children of defence personnel, three seats for children of ex-defence personnel, one seat for scouts and guides, one seat for an anglo Indian and 12 seats for physically handicapped.

Out of the total 1,970 dental seats, 553 seats have been set aside for 25 per cent reservation and general merit seats (category I governmetn seats), 668 seats have been set aside for 40 per cent Karnataka seats (category II — governmetn seats), 127 have been set aside for ten per cent non-Karnataka seats (category III— government seats) and 630 seats are available under the management quota (category IV).
Out of the 553 seats in the 25 per cent reservation and general merit seats (category I governmetn seats), eight seats are reserved for special category, 273 seats are reserved for reservation category (SC-82, ST-17, 2A-82, 2B-22, 3A-22, 3B-27, catI-21) and 272 seats are available for general merit category (GM—212, GMR-38, GMK-13, All India quota — nine).
Of the eight seats available in special category, three seats are available for sports, one seat for the son/daughter of a defence personnel, one seat for the son/daughter of ex-defence personnel, one seat for scouts and guides and two seats for physically handicapped.
The seat selection process would begin from July 10 for physically handicapped candidates who can opt for a seat out of 116 engineering, 12 medical and two dental seats.
