BENGALURU: Priyanka Prasad and Sharon Samuel, two women biking enthusiasts from Bengaluru, had a traumatic time after the keys of their bikes were allegedly snatched by a man from near the Nice Road toll booth off Bannerghatta Road on Sunday.
"My friend and I were returning from a Women's Day bike rally from Kanakapura when I stopped on NICE Road to share the toll ticket.
While we halted on the road that we had paid to use, a man from a house close by came towards us shouting that we were encroaching his property," Priyanka alleged.
Soon, the man gestured to another man who seemed to be his son. The women thought the youth would probably sort out the issue but he instead cornered the women, took the keys out of their bikes and went into the house, she claimed. "For 45 minutes we stood in the sun. He went back to the house and was walking around with a big stick in his hand. We felt so threatened and helpless. After trying the police control room several times, a Hoysala car came to help us," Priyanka said. This happened at 1.15pm.
When TOI reached out to them at 7.40pm, they were still at the police station.
Police, however, said the bikers and the man were in the process of resolving the issue at their level. "At the station, the man said it was a misunderstanding and offered an apology. However, the bikers wanted the apology on video, which the man did not agree to," police said.
Later in the night, police registered FIRs on the basis of a complaint filed by the women and a counter-complaint by the man.
