BANGALORE: Villagers around Devanahalli snubbed the expansion of the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) saying that the company never looked at development of the area and giving jobs to young men and women from surrounding villages to improve the standard of life around the airport. This was during the public hearing for environmental clearance for the expansion and second runway on August 29.
Around 1000 eligible educated candidates turned up on the first job fair organized by the BIAL on Wednesday for people aged between 18 and 40 years with minimum educational qualification of sixth standard and maximum up to graduation.
Around 12 companies that operate at he airport premises offered jobs in areas of cargo operations, ground handling, air catering, taxi services, retail, airline operation and other support group services.
Villagers from Anneswara, Doddajala, bettakote and Bandikodigehalli grama panchayat limits attended the job fair.
PB Ramamurthy, Metropolitan Commissioner of BMRDA said, "These events provide opportunities to locals to work at the airport and in turn development of the villages and BIAL. The airport will also require people and be self-developed."
Shripad SB, deputy labour commissioner and Bhaskar Bodapati, senior director, finance and support services of BIAL were present at the job fair apart from the companies who were screening candidates for jobs.
