CM pleads helplessness on HC bench issue

bangalore: chief minister s.m. krishna on friday expressed helplessness in setting up of a high court bench in north karnataka and said that the "ball was in the high court." krishna told reporters at the swearing-in ceremony of chief justice of karnataka high court n.k. jain: " we will have to wait. honestly speaking, there is very little that the state government can do.the ball is now in the high court." stating that former chief justice of karnataka high court justice p.v. reddi had informed him that a committee of judges was examining the need for setting up of a high court bench in north karnataka, krishna said his government was committed on the issue. asked if the government would approach the centre with the demand, the cm said: "whenever an occasion arises, we do not fail to impress upon the centre. i am sure the chief justice of india will take concrete decisions on setting up of the bench in north karnataka." chief minister s.m. krishna greeting justice nagendra kumar jain who was sworn in as the chief justice of karnataka in bangalore on friday.
