Cops save man trying to end life on rail track in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: A dramatic late-night rescue operation unfolded near Huskur railway station Wednesday when Hebbagodi police saved a 30-year-old man from Kerala who was attempting to end his life by lying on a railway track.
The railway staff noticed the man lying on the tracks at Chintala Madiwala and alerted emergency helpline 112. The Hoysala patrol team attached to Hebbagodi police station received the alert around 11.30pm and rushed to the spot.
The team found the man lying on the track nearly 200 metres from Huskur station. When police personnel tried to shift him, he shouted at them to stay away. As police tried to persuade him, the man began throwing stones at them, making the rescue efforts even more challenging.
Amid the commotion, the man lost his balance while throwing stones, fell onto the track and sustained minor injuries. After nearly 15-20 minutes of high drama, police brought a rope, tied his hands and managed to pull him away from the track.
During inquiry, the man identified himself as Ajay, 30, a native of Kozhikode. Police were told he is mentally disturbed. They arranged for an ambulance and shifted him to Nimhans for treatment and counselling.
