Diamonds, jewellery worth ‘25L stolen

Burglars broke into the house of jewellery shop owner Mongilal on Sunday evening and made away with gold jewellery and diamonds, all worth over Rs 25 lakh. Mongilal owns Manu Jewellery Shop on Avenue Road and lives on Jain Temple Street in Shivajinagar.

BANGALORE: Burglars broke into the house of jewellery shop owner Mongilal on Sunday evening and made away with gold jewellery and diamonds, all worth over Rs 25 lakh. Mongilal owns Manu Jewellery Shop on Avenue Road and lives on Jain Temple Street in Shivajinagar. He and his seven siblings meet for the rakhi festival in one of their homes. On Sunday, Mongilal and his family had gone to his brother's house in Basaveshwarnagar and that's when the burglars struck.
Mongilal had kept gold jewellery worth over Rs 15 lakh and other diamond-studded jewellery worth over Rs 8-10 lakh.

Police suspect someone known to Mongilal pulled off the theft.
Sandalwood smugglers held
Two sandalwood smugglers, Nanjunde Gowda and Jagadish of Holenarasipura, were arrested in the wee hours of Monday when they tried to down cut a tree in HMT Layout, Jalahalli. The two men, along with three others, were chased by persons from the neighbourhood but three managed to slip away under the cover of darkness.
