BANGALORE: A 30-year-old man posing as a policeman fled with a wireless set he snatched from a head constable near HAL late Friday night. He’d been caught by residents of Marathahalli.Around 10.30 pm, residents found a man checkingvehicles alone on the road. When they questioned him , he didn’t give anyconvincing answers, but claimed he was a policeman. They nabbed him and calledHAL police who asked night patrolmen head constable Gangadhar and constableBuden to rush there.Even as Gangadhar was taking the unidentifiedman in an autorickshaw with the constable on a motorcycle following theirvehicle, the fake cop brandished a knife, snatched the wireless set fromGangadhar and jumped out of the vehicle when it slowed down alittle.The constable tried to chase him, but the fake cop escapedunder the cover of darkness , police said . “We hope to recover thewireless as soon as possible,” a senior police officersaid.Two unidentified men attacked a goldsmith on Palaceroad near the magic box across T Chowdaiah road and took away gold jewelleryworth Rs 3 lakh from him on Thursday night.Kishen Lal, 35, aresident of Sarakki , was going home around 9.30 pm on his motorcycle when twoassailants waylaid him.
Lal owns a jewellery shop at Kogilu Cross nearYelahanka.The assailants demanded he hand over the gold jewellery.When he refused and tried to defend himself , they hit him on the head with awooden log and snatched the bag containing jewellery.Other motoristsrushed a bleeding Lal to Bowring Hospital. After first aid, he was taken toVictoria Hospital and was referred to Nimhans. Lal’s family admitted himto a private hospital in Sarakki near his house.Lal first told police helost gold jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh . After a day, he revised the estimate to Rs6 lakh even though police think it’s Rs 3 lakh.
