Hassan teacher kidnapped, parents suspect kin's role

HASSAN: In a shocking incident of kidnapping that took place in broad daylight here Thursday, a 23-year-old schoolteacher was forced into an SUV by three men near the private school where she was employed and driven away, reports Ranjith Kandya.
The abduction happened at 10am while the victim named Arpita was on her way to the school to attend Kanaka Jayanti celebrations.Arpita's parents suspect the role of one of their relatives, Ramu, 26, behind the abduction and have lodged a complaint against him. Two weeks ago, Arpita had reportedly rejected a marriage proposal from Ramu, against whom police have now filed a case. Cops confirmed Ramu had no criminal antecedents.
CCTV footage shows trio pushing teacher into SUV
CCTV footage of the incident has been retrieved and Hassan police have formed special teams to trace the victim. The footage shows three people pushing the woman into a vehicle and driving off within seconds.
Police sources said Ramu, a bar bender, and his family members had visited Arpitha's home recently with a proposal for marriage. However, Arpitha and her family turned it down, which might have irked Ramu.
Mohammad Sujitha, the superintendent of police, told TOI: "We are investigating all angles and have obtained some leads."
