BANGALORE: Excise minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and Dasarahalli MLA Munriraju were allegedly assaulted by JD(S) workers at Channapatna on Sunday evening. The incident led to tension and traffic jam for a while.
Naidu told TOI: "We, along with sericulture minister V Venkataramanappa, were heading towards Bangalore after campaigning around 4 pm. A person waylaid us, saying we were still within the constituency limits even after campaign time.
Without even listening, he started hitting us, and was joined by a group of 50 persons. They threw stones at our car, thrashed Muniraju and slapped me.''
Naidu said the party will lodge a complaint against the group headed by Vadakehosalli Naganna. Transport minister R Ashok blamed JD(S) chief Kumaraswamy's `provocation' for the incident.
JD(S) workers said they took objection to BJP leaders' presence in the constituency even after 5 pm (campaigning ends at 5 pm) and distributing money to voters.
