BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has admitted a PIL challenging the proposal to put down the proposal of construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Agara lake premises in Bengaluru city.
A division bench headed by Justice K L Manjunath has ordered notice to Chief secretary of Karnataka,Karnataka State Pollution Control Board,Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Lake Development Authority,Bangalore Development Authority, Bruhath Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and V S Ugrappa, a member of Karnataka Legislative Council representing ruling congress party.
The petitioners have claimed that because of recommendation made by Ugrappa, the proposed STP plant is put down and the same is now being constructed at Kachohalli lake.
"The residents are suffering from serious diseases putting their life under threat such as Dengue, Malaria, Chicken Guinea, etc., transmitted through mosquitoes. In fact, HSR Layout is called as the den of mosquitoes by various health experts." the petitioner, HSR layout sector VII residents welfare association has claimed.
