MYSORE: Chief minister S.M. Krishna on Sunday said that in the next 15 months, the four-lane express highway of international standards will be built between Mysore and Bangalore. This will go a long way in developing Mysore as an alternative to Bangalore.
At a press meet here after performing the "Guddali Pooja" for the expressway he said the government is serious about making Mysore an alternative to Bangalore for investors in the field of IT and BT.
As infrastructure is more important to attract investors, the Mysore and Bangalore expressway is the need of the hour, he added.
He said that the government will not spare an effort to develop Mysore as the next IT and BT destiny.
Krishna said that it was his long-cherished dream to take up the prestigious project as he has a strong attachment for the road. He also said that the Mysore-Bangalore Corridor project road is a "toll paid" expressway and it has nothing to do with this four-lane.
"Our effort is to make four-lane qualitatively as good and competent as corridor way," he said, denying that this four-way lane will hinder the corridor work.
Krishna said this was the reason that his government decided to declare Mysore a "heritage city" and then appointed a commissioner for the purpose.
To a question, Krishna said on Monday he will summon heritage commissioner Vijay Bhasker to Bangalore and hold discussions with him on the impediments for him in starting the work in making Mysore a heritage city.
He said that he will find out the ways and means and try to resolve all the issues relating to the ''heritage'' works.
When pointed out that an amendment is needed for the Town and Country Planning Act should be amended to start a heritage city works, "I will work out a plan after a discussion with the commissioner."
In reply to a question, he said that all structures and illegal occupations in and around Chamundi Hills will be removed or demolished to maintain its scenic beauty.
"The law of the land is the same for all and there will be no discrimination on this count," he replied when asked if the government will deal with the big shots equally.
